Instructional Design & Multimedia Production

About Me

Educational Beginnings

My interest in multimedia Instructional Design and video production began while I was studying Chinese history at Harvard Graduate school. At the time, the Chinese department was the pilot for Harvard’s Digital Humanities effort and HarvardX online. I started researching and exploring the uses of multimedia for instructional purposes. I quickly became a team leader in the design and production of online seminars and videos for ChinaX.

My role soon evolved into a head content designer, writer, developer and producer. I adopted new processes for creating online content, starting with wire-framing of the content by chunking it into short videos to be interspersed with assessments and interactive tools for use on the EdX LMS Platform. I went on to collaborate with Subject Matter Experts in lecture scripting and filming and then storyboarding the short instructional videos to incorporate graphics with the lecture footage for added visual explanation. I enjoyed producing the videos and presenting new concepts and techniques to my colleagues.

Around the same time, I also began creating independent films on my dissertation topic in ancient Chinese philosophy, specifically the concept called “Added Value,” which is the process of using multimedia layering techniques by combining visuals, sound, metaphor and script to most effectively communicate new content. Making independent films also gave me an opportunity to experience instructional film production from start to finish, including: content expertise, script writing, storyboarding, graphics, voice recording, music, footage, animation, post-production, export, and launching.

Corporate Expansion

Upon finishing my studies at Harvard, I went on to apply my video production experiences in the corporate setting, working closely with course developers at InterSystems to move instructional content from storyboards and scripts into final online technical training content and videos. While further developing my video production skills, I took initiative this time to incorporate more animation, and especially character animation, into our instructional videos.

I later served as Manager and Designer for Instructional Media Content at Teleflex Inc., focusing on online training for vascular and radiology applications. Beyond Teleflex, I expanded my practice to explore more inclusive learning strategies, developing approaches that support neurodiverse learners and customized learning paths for wider audiences.

Currently, I am working with nonprofit organizations seeking to renovate their online presence with modern initiatives and design.
